Psych extension to hold culminating activity for SMILE for HIs program

After a year of training programs for selected hearing impaired individuals coming from Lucban, Mauban, and Tayabas, the College of Arts and Sciences Extension Services, more specifically that of the AB Psychology program, will conduct a closing program and culminating activity on November 9 at the CAM Learning Center.

The program will award medals and certificates to the first 27 beneficiaries as well as recognize the people who have worked closely with the team to make the project a success.

SMILE for HIs, or "Skills Mentoring and Innovative Livelihood Education for Hearing Impaired Adolescents and Young Adults" is an extension project based on the recommendations on the 2012 study of Prof. Virginia Alcoreza and Prof. Rene P Zubieto entitled, “Need Assessment of Hearing Impaired Adolescents and Young Adults: Basis for Designing a Non Formal Education”. The study suggested the offering of a skills-training program for Hearing Impaired individuals based on their particular livelihood needs and interests. [READ: SMILE for HIs]

The program run from October 2016 to October 2017, which offered Personality Development seminars, Parenting seminars (for HIs parents), Courses on Baking, Basic Electronics, and Computer Technology to hearing impaired individuals. It received funding from different sectors such as SLSU, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Quezon Province, DepEd & LGU Tayabas, and is a collaborative project of various SLSU-based student organizations, CAS ad CIT Professors, DepEd Lucban and Tayabas Teachers (specifically from PEL & LPNHS).
