Students of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BS Math) brought honor to Southern Luzon State University as they secured victory in the Philippine Data Festival (PH Data Fest), held at the Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati City, on Nov. 15-16, 2018.

Desserie de Castro and Oliver Talavera proved that wit and excellent strategy are necessary to guess the statistical terms and concepts as they won first place in Stat Genius, a game that follows the concept of the Filipino Pantomime Game “Pinoy Henyo.”

Christian Bilolo seized the second place in Data Cartooning. His creativity and artistry were tested as he tried to present data in a more visually appealing and concise but informative manner.

Meanwhile, Jezreil Barroquillo got the third place in Stats and Ladders, a life-size board game similar to ‘Snake and Ladders’ with the aim of reaching the last board tile.

Moreover, Jesson Amparo showcased his skills in data interpretation and writing as he won the third place in Data Storytelling, an on-the-spot contest on the preparation of articles using official statistics.

The group was coached by Mr. Jed Frank Marqueses of the Mathematics Department, who was also recently hailed as "Best Guest" in the recent PSA inter-university competition on radio hosting. (READ: SLSU hailed champ in ‘Statistics on Air’)
