CAS Students conquer SLSU research conference

Students of College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) once again proved their excellence in research as they bagged awards in the recently conducted 5th SLSU Intercollegiate Research Conference, April 7, 2016.

In the Natural Science category, the study of Marjorie R. Abuel and Rizza Mae T. Bugtong entitled ‘Contamination Rate of Soil-Transmitted Helminths on Soils from Selected Elementary Schools in Lucban, Quezon’ got the 1st place while the research of Larrisse O. Lipit and Verinna Charisse B. Mangonon entitled ‘Antibiotic Resistance of Salmonella in Contaminated Chicken Eggs and Poultry Environment’ bagged the 3rd spot. The researchers are students of BS Biology.

The documentary of Djacmar Al P. Jacela and Christel Ann D. Regulacion of Bachelor of Arts in Communication won the 2nd place in the Social Sciences category. Their study ‘Banat-Buto: A Documentary Film on the Lives of Working Children in Tayabas, City, Quezon’ present the situation of the working children.

BS Mathematics students Arjay T. Altovar and Adrian J. Andal placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the Development Communication/Innovation category. Altovar’s research entitled ‘Escaping the Danger Zone: Proposed Earthquake Evacuation Route for Selected Southern Luzon State University Buildings’ presents possible evacuation route in the university building in case of an earthquake. Meanwhile, Andal’s study ‘Detect the Hidden… Record the Unseen!: Proposed Installation of Security Cameras Applying Ear Clipping Triangulation’ identified the best location for security cameras installation following a Mathematics formula.

In the previous Intercollegiate research conference, CAS has been known to produce excellent research as their student-researchers have been consistent winners.
