Program outcomes in terms of employment in the last five years

Licensure examinations are not required for Communication graduates to engage in their particular field of work. However, students are encouraged to take the civil service examination, and KBP examinations for media practitioners.

The Graduates of the the program are involved in different industries such as education, print, advertising, production, information and communication technology, and most especially in the media. Most of them are hired within six (6) months after finishing the course.

Milestones

2020 - London-based publisher, Headymix, republishes a journal article developed out of the thesis of Ms. Pelasalome Alayan and Ms. Antonette Balancad. Entitled "The 'Makings' of a heroine: Comparative Analysis of the Constructed Identity of Female Protagonists in Brothers Grimm and Disney Fairy Tales", it appeared in their "Feminist Fairytales" edition of their publication series that aim to "read new writing from diverse voices" of women from around the world. They were supervised by Ms. Princess Catherine Pabellano while writing their thesis and in the repackaging of their thesis into an article.

2017 - BA Communication is chosen by ABS-CBN Star Music to produce the music video for "Naririnig Mo ba?" performed by Morissette, which was an entry to the Himig Handog Music Competition for that year. The music video is produced by BA Comm student production team, BIG MINDS PRODUCTIONS headed by Miguel Potestades as Director, and his team Brent Vincent Cameron Vergara (Director of Photography), Kim Belard Marquez (Editor), Resa Mae Salvador (Writer), Gian Paul Guinto & Rue Keziah Monique Romualdo (Cinematographers), Russel Cias (Gaffer), Denise Rym Roden Encomienda (Grip), Terence Jan Alexis Reveche (Production Designer), Daphne Blanche Mendoza (Production Manager), Ysabel Encarnacion, John Macleod Lamoca, Juzzane Valderamos & Marielle Biacor (Production Assistants). They were supervised by BA Communication faculty members, Ms. Mary Jane Camarador, Mr. Jansen Amiel Demetrial, Ms. Joan Dizon, Ms. Khristalyn Fraginal, Dr. Shiela Manzanilla, and Ms. Princess Catherine Pabellano.

2017 - Ms. Immanuelle Espiritu qualifies for, and lands second in the Asian Journalism Research Conference organized by the Journalism Department of the University of the Philippines Diliman, University of Santo Tomas, and Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta of Indonesia. Her thesis is entitled: "Hunted in the Promise Land: A Discourse Analysis of the News Reports about Lumad killings". She was advised by Ms. Princess Catherine L. Pabellano.

2017 - Mr. Jeremy Vien Quing and Ms. Katrina Oblefias, Directors, are awarded for their documentary film "In Memoriam", which won Best Documentary Film in the Piling Obrang Vidyo (POV) XIII, an interschool video competition organized by the University of the Philippines. The documentary film is a product of their undergraduate thesis under the supervision of Ms. Princess Catherine L. Pabellano.

2016 - Mr. Amiel Jansen Demetrial defends the SLSU title, and wins the Chit Estella Award for Journalism Research (Champion) at the Philippine Journalism Research Conference sponsored by the UP-CMC Department of Journalism, held at the UP Diliman Cine Adarna on April 12, 2016. His winning thesis is entitled: Terorista! Terorista?: Ideological Construction of the Moro Muslim Identity in the Online Reports on the Mamasapano Clash and Bangsamoro Basic Law . He was advised by Asst. Prof. Nicanor L. Guinto.

2015 - Mr. Beejay Castillo wins the Chit Estella Award for Journalism Research (Champion) at the Philippine Journalism Research Conference sponsored by the UP-CMC Department of Journalism, held at the UP Diliman Cine Adarna on March 13, 2015. His winning thesis is entitled: Ginisang Baboy Sa Utak Ng Pinoy: Isang Kritikal na Pag-Aaral sa Kung Papaano Hinubog ng Online Media ang Posisyon ni Juan sa Pork Barrel Scam 2013. He was advised by Asst. Prof. Nicanor L. Guinto.

2014 - The film ___ was one of the finalists for the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival...

2013 - BA Communication Batch 2014 conceptualizes and stages the very first Ginoong Lakas Loob (GLL) through the supervision of Ms. Ma. Niña B. Roazol, their instructor in Radio and Television Production. Since then, GLL has become a much-awaited annual event in SLSU. Its format has likewise been adapted (with express permission) in various other Universities such as Cavite State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Unisan, among others. It has since been featured in ABS-CBN’s Rated K in 2017 (screenshot and video snippet courtesy of Rated K).

2012 - Ms. Genevieve Gail Vitas wins the BEST THESIS Award at the National Communication Research Conference organized by the Communication Research Department of the University of the Philippines Diliman. She was advised by Asst. Prof. Michael Anthony Nada and Assoc. Prof. Carmelita C. Placino.
